Finding the Finger Lakes Trail

The main Finger Lakes Trail is 562 miles long and connects the Catskill Mountains with the Allegheny Mountains by passing through remote areas of the Southern Tier of New York State.

Connections

The main Finger Lakes Trail connects with the North Country National Scenic Trail in Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The Conservation Trail, a major branch trail, connects with the Bruce Trail in Canada. Altogether, the main trail and its branch and loop trails total over 850 miles. Many sections of the Finger Lakes Trail are official segments of the North Country National Scenic Trail. This 4,600-mile-long foot trail is being built across seven states between Lake Champlain in New York and Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota.

When planning your hike or backpacking trip on the Finger Lakes Trail, make sure you visit our map page and buyer's guide where you can order trail maps and guide books ahead of time.

About the FLT

This section answers the questions: What is the Finger Lakes Trail System? Who Can Use the Trails of the Finger Lakes Trail System? Who Maintains the FLT?

Buy Stuff, Join or Donate to the FLTC

All secure transactions begin at the page these links will open. You can purchase books, clothing, logo equipment, and maps. There are various levels of support at which you can join the Finger Lakes Trail Conference.

You may also make an on-line donation here. The Finger Lakes Trail System was built and is maintained by volunteers, BUT it does cost money to keep it open. We do not charge people to hike the trail, nor do we require that you become FLTC members. If you appreciate our efforts and wish to help support our mission with a donation, we'd really appreciate it. We are a 501 (c) (3) not for profit corporation, so all dues and contributions are tax deductible. If you have questions about our budget or operations, feel free to contact us.

Special secure transactions also begin here, such a tickets to one-time events.

Plan a Hike

This section includes suggestions about what to take on various kinds of hikes. It also has valuable information about how to know where you may camp and park vehicles.

FLTC Calendar

Looking for a hike, or can't remember when that meeting starts? Check out the calendar of events. Listings include the event, location (including map number) and time, and a contact person.

Trail Conditions

Hikers and maintainers report extra information, both problems and good news. These reports are posted here to help others with hike planning. The date of the report, and the FLT map number are included, as well as the name of the person making the report.

Links

The links section now includes five divisions. There are FLT System Trail Sponsors- those who maintain a section of the trail. There are also Business and Commercial Members. By joining the FLTC they are given a link on our web page. We encourage everyone to thank and use the services of those businesses who support the Finger Lakes Trail. There is a section with links to sites of Other Trails, and one to Tourism sites. Finally, there is a section of links to Other sites which may be of interest to FLT folks. (If you are a business and would like a link, please see the "Join the FLTC" page.)
