GENESEE VALLEY HIKING CLUB SCHEDULE

Hike leaders will be at the designated place and time regardless of weather conditions. Hike leaders are responsible for getting a substitute GVHC leader.

DIFFICULTY CODES
  • S- Denotes less than 6 miles
  • N- Denotes a normal 7-10 miles
  • G- Denotes a gully hike
  • H- Denotes hilly terrain
  • *- (Asterisk) Denotes a strenuous hike of more than 10 miles.
  • XC- Denotes a hike planned for cross country skiing - depending on the weather.
  • SS- Denotes a hike planned for snowshoeing - depending on the weather.
  • SPL- Unusual.

HIKE RULES

  • Participants must sign their own names on the Trip Leader's report form and pay carpool fee. Guests are welcome.
  • All participants must abide by the hike rules. The hike leader is in charge of the hike and will make all decisions as to the route, rest stops, duration, etc.
  • The Co-Leader or sweep is responsible for bringing up the rear and insuring that hikers do not get too spread out or separate.
  • Do not leave the hike without the permission of the Leader. No fewer than two hikers should go together. All people must be accounted for at the end of the hike.
  • Wear appropriate shoes or boots. For your comfort and safety be prepared for sunshine, rain or cold. No pets or radios. No smoking. Once a hike is started, it will usually continue in spite of the weather. Be prepared. Bring lunch and water. Some hikes are on private land; respect the owner's rights. Motto: "Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints."
  • Children under sixteen are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
  • Enjoy the hike and the other participants. If you have any questions or problems, consult the hike leader.
  • Leaders shall abide by the Leader's Guidelines published in the Genesee Valley Hiking Club bylaws.

MEETING PLACE

Hike leaders select the meeting location to coordinate with their specific hike. The hike time and meeting location change weekly. Check the schedule. The start time in the schedule is the hike starting time. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the stated time.

HIKE LEADERSHIP

The Leader and Co-Leader should previously scout the hike, with owner's permissions gained (if required). Co-Leaders will be appointed from the hikers present, if no Co-Leader is listed in the schedule.
